During happy
family events, my father would reach over to Mom sitting beside him, pat her leg and ask “How do you like it so far?” For Pa it was really a statement rather than a question and his way of saying that they were having one of the best times of their lives.
Recalling his habit over Father’s Day, I realized that “How do you like it so far?” is a valuable question to ask at work and at home. Some people make New Year’s resolutions in a once-a-year effort to improve their lives, but Pa’s question allows you to analyze where you are at any point and to correct your course so that you will reach your goals.
“How do you like it so far?”
Is the new project working out as you expected, or should you make changes before it goes any further?
Is the new employee proving to be a wonderful addition to the team, or should you admit that you made a hiring mistake?
Is your day on track, or should you change your plan for the afternoon so that you can leave the office today feeling that you have accomplished something worthwhile?
Are you enjoying your life? If not, it’s time to do something about that.
Ask yourself often: “How do you like it so far?” I hope that you reach the point that my father did, when there is a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, because the answer is that you like it very much indeed.
