One powerful practice

Simplify.

That one practice can improve your organization, time management, productivity and stress management. And it is simple to do too.

This is Simplify Your Life Week, so it is the perfect time to focus on eliminating the unnecessary with a few minutes each day.

On the Unclutterer site, “A Thing a Day” is one of the most popular discussion forums. It challenges people to eliminate clutter by discarding, donating or otherwise removing just one thing a day. (Putting an item in storage doesn’t count.)

I’ve taken that challenge and found it has dual benefits. Not only do you eliminate clutter bit by bit but also you start to see things around you in a fresh way, recognizing what you can remove.

At The Organized Executive, we take a broader approach to simplifying. For example, it can mean streamlining meetings or eliminating items from your to-do list.

Because one daily change can make such a huge difference in how you work, we wrote The Organized Executive’s Priority One in that format. The book provides 260 strategies to improve the way you work, one for every weekday of the year.  You can follow it in order or jump to the chapters that you need the most, such as “Lead effective meetings,” “Delegate with confidence” and “Run successful projects.”

To give you a jump-start on simplifying your life, we’re providing dozens of tips this week through our Twitter feed, @WorkSurvival. Follow us and look for the hashtag #SimplifyYourLife.

How have you simplified your life?
